A look back at Insurance 3.0

Articles | News

Last week Market Minds held their annual one-day InsurTech conference, Insurance 3.0: Part II. The group, led by Sebastian de Zulueta, organised a day of workshops, panels and discussions in the impressive surroundings of One Moorgate Place. The Artificial team were at the conference and had a chance to showcase our two latest products and meet with industry experts who are keen to bring insurance into the 21st century.

One of the conference events was the Pitch Parlour, where our own Business Analyst Moe Zaman delivered a 10 minute presentation on how we make the insurance process frictionless for our clients. We saw some other great pitches by the likes of Anorak and South Africa’s Nobuntu, and the parlour itself was a good way to get a snapshot of where the industry is at.

Later on in the day Artificial CEO Damian Arnold spoke on a panel entitled Future Skills: Do I Need to Tech Up?’, with Kirsten Shastri from Beazley and Adrien Cohen of Tractable. One of the key takeaways was the importance of insurers and tech companies working in partnership and sharing their strengths, because one won’t ultimately succeed without the other.

For Artificial, the big event of the day was our workshop ‘Using Machine Learning to automate the quote, bind and issue process’. We wanted to showcase our two newest products and give real life underwriters and brokers the chance to see how technology can change the way they work.

To our delight, there wasn’t an empty seat in the house! There’s no point having a big crowd if no-one engages them, though, and the hour-long session was full of audience questions, discussions and demos. The level of engagement showed us that there is an appetite for change in the industry.

Other notable events were the Women in Insurance Initiative workshops - a cause that Market Minds has been (rightly) vocal about supporting, the First Dates space for speed networking, tech pitches and even a relaxation room complete with bean bags.

Overall the conference was well put together, full of interesting content and well worth attending. See you next year...
